=:< Fej

Born in March 1994 Geoffrey, or Fej as he came to be known, was a much loved and cherished pet. He lived life to the full, eating, sleeping and giving love and affection to all he came into contact with.

He'd follow you round the flat if you were there on your own at night, sit patiently on the mat while you relaxed in the bath, and liked to snooze the day away in the sun watching the comings and goings of fox cubs, sqwirlies, hodgehegs and birds in the garden.

He liked to tuck himself away behind the sofa in the living room, where the radiator kept him snug and warm. Another favourite spot for sleeping was under the bed, keeping a beady button-eye on those who slept. He loved TV and liked to watch Stargate, The Lost World and Voyager from the corner of the living room rug. Sometimes he'd hop into his red tartan cloth house and wait to be lifted onto the sofa for an hour long stroking session lasting the entire duration of one of these programmes.

On Friday March 7th 2003 he was laid to rest beneath a small pear tree, in the garden he had come to love, as he lazed in the sun looking out through the french windows. As summers come and summers go and the world gets a little older, those who loved Fej will care for this pear tree as they cared for Fej himself and nature will make it grow tall and strong. And through nature's continuing process of renewal and rebuilding, of recycling molecules and building them up into new forms and creations, this little bunny will achieve an incredible thing; slowly but surely, just as a rock hewn from the ground can be nurtured and shaped into a beautiful gem, Fej will find himself gradually reborn as part of the substance, leaves, fruit and branches of the pear tree itself.

And each summer we'll sit in our deckchairs in the shade of the pear tree and remember Fej as he was, while marvelling at what he has become.
